Here we are - over four months already passed since the beginning of 2020 and I have finally managed to take some time to share my experience in the beautiful city of Cluj! Which, by the way, I visited on New Year's Eve. Wow! And when it comes to Cluj, it is difficult to describe it quickly in just a few words. First of all, Cluj is a special city for which it is worth taking some time to write. And secondly, it was so difficult to choose just a few pictures from the hundreds I took! That being said, let's see if my Cluj Travel Diary will inspire you to make a visit there.
PS: After the social isolation ends and the pandemic coronavirus will be history.
HOW TO GET TO CLUJ
I like to think that this city is the second capital of Romania and the heart of the historical Transylvania region. Due to its great location on the map, Cluj is a city that can be reached by car, plane or train.
Darius and I chose the last option because -wait for it- I really wanted to see what it's like to travel by train for 10 hours. And let's admit: even if it was nice, I would never repeat the experience. It takes too much time. Take the plane instead.
WHERE TO STAY IN CLUJ
As usual, when it comes to looking for a nice and cozy place to stay, I use booking.com and airbnb.com. This time though, we found the studio where we stayed on Airbnb, but we made the reservation on booking because the studio was available for reservation on both platforms.
Tip: Use both booking.com and airbnb.com when you want to find a great place to stay.
And I'm so happy that I applied for this tip! Studio V is one of the coolest places I've ever stayed in. Decorated in industrial style, inspired by a photography studio, intimate and cozy, Studio V truly surprised us. Not only that it is located in the heart of Cluj, close to the most amazing tourist attractions, but it is perfectly equipped for a comfortable stay. I truly recommend it!
WHAT TO VISIT IN CLUJ
There are so many incredible places you can visit in this special city! I will though share only those that are worth visiting in winter. The temperatures didn't exceed 2 degrees Celsius during our stay there (that's 35 degrees Fahrenheit), so we tried not to move too far from the center. By the way - the center is STUNNING. The pastel and colorful buildings of Unirii Square and Museum Square particularly caught my attention. These houses will help you get to the next level when it comes to photography.
Moreover, as we were in Cluj near New Year's Eve, I also visited the Cluj Christmas Market, which actually seemed to come out of a fairy tale. The small, white and cozy houses had delicious snacks and many original souvenirs. Then, if you decide to come to Cluj, you must visit Cetățuia, where you will enjoy a spectacular panorama over this city. We believe that it was worth to go there and thus to interact with other areas of Cluj. Other places worth mentioning are Matei Corvin House, Museum of Pharmacy, National Theater and Romanian Opera. And speaking of places worth visiting in Cluj…
WHERE TO EAT IN CLUJ
… You must try its restaurants! My taste buds were delighted during our stay there and this shouldn't surprise you at all, because the food in that city is super appetizing. I'll mention here some of the places we really liked: Casa Veche for a traditional Romanian menu, History for a pizza like in Italy, Beluga for sophisticated flavors, Joben Bistro to taste delicious food in a decor inspired by Jules Verne's books.
